Teaching of Science

What does a science lesson look like at Kells Lane Primary School?

At Kells Lane Primary School, our science lessons are centred around working scientifically. We break down the national curriculum into smaller steps to allow the children to focus on specific enquiry types and enquiry skills. This small step approach enables children to develop their skills and embed their understanding of the different elements of scientific enquiry.

Scientific Vocabulary

All lessons will start with a recall activity, giving children the chance to recall prior knowledge of key vocabulary and definitions. This is done before introducing new vocabulary and new learning in that lesson.

Enquiry Types

Enquiry Skills

Science enquiry types and skills are selected in conjunction with the national curriculum coverage as outlined in our Dimensions science curriculum ensuring that all children are exposed to the full range of enquiry types and skills across their time at Kells Lane Primary School.
